Matt just turned 14! I canot believe it! I know I say that every year, but that doesn't make it any less true. This year I was really struck by how much I miss my little Matt, especially scooping him up and giving him a big squeeze, or reading him a story on my lap, or holding his little hand while the two of us went on a walk together. I know it's been quite a few years since any of those things have happened, but for some reason this year is the one it really hit me.
Don't get me wrong, I adore my "big" Matt too, I just wish I could go back every now and then, ya' know?
Anyway, for his birthday this year, I took him out and bought him some new basketball shoes, not cheap, but his feet keep growing, and it's something he really likes, so in leiu of a party... shoes. They are pretty cool, they look like this...

We went out and got those at the beginning of January, so he would have them when school started after Christmas break (since it would be like a first day of school for him since the move...), needless to say, I felt bad that he wouldn't have something fun to look forward to on his actual birthday. So, I decided I would decorate his new room for him. I didn't take any "befores", but just imagine blank walls, and a cardboard box "nightstand" with sports magazines strewn everywhere and you didn't miss much. So, here you go, Matt's birthday suprise and the first fully decorated room in our new home.
Headboard, new pillow covers, new bedding, nightstand & basket (to hide stuff ;) )
The best find ever! Magazine rack for all the SIs Matt's accumulated.
Not a great shot, but new curtains & art on the wall...
Bulletin boards to hang all the stuff he must hang.
Our handsome Matt seeing his room for the first time. He was so suprised! He was speechless! That is quite unusual for him. So much fun & he definitely enjoys having a nice place to hang out now. Hooray for birthdays!
